Werewolf 101

Let's talk Werewolf and how we can adapt it to an awesome virtual game.

If you are new to Werewolf there are games of it you can buy, but it is not necessary (even for in person play). It is also known as Mafia if you are familiar with that. It is basically a survival/guessing/whodunit game. You have one or two werewolves secretly hiding among your villagers and everyone must suss out who they are before they become the next victim. For each night, the werewolves feed.

Let's get to the online setup.

Ideally, you would have teens preregister (which if you are doing a Zoom session you will want to because it will help decrease surprise guests and shenanigans) and they will all show up. But realistically, you will have them show up at which point you will begin writing down everyone's names (or typing). While you are mapping it all out, you can have them start deciding on a name for their village.

You will determine the number of werewolves, seers, villagers and priests.

A/V: It is best if they have cameras AND audio, but they at the very least need to have their audio on.

You will PM each person with their role (set up your Zoom room so they can only chat with you!).

At nighttime everyone closes their eyes (=shut off cameras & mics).

At night these things happen:
1. Werewolf-decides who will they will eat. (If you do decide on multiple wolves, you will just chat between them)
2. Seer-They will give you the name of one villager. You will tell them if they are a villager or a werewolf. If they out pick the werewolf right away and there is only one of them they can out them to the village with ease. If you have two wolves, that's where it gets tricky. The seer would not want to expose themselves or they will be the next victim.
3. Priest-They can pick one person to protect that night. And, yes, they can selfishly pick themselves.
4. Dead person dance party!

In the morning these things happen:
1. Mics and cameras come back on.
2. The dead are announced and will be renamed to DEAD and their mics will go off.
3. Everyone then can decide if they want to kick someone out of the village. Thumbs up stay, down go, side-no vote.
4. If someone is kicked out, they will announce what their role was.

That's it. The game ends when one of  2 things happens:
1. The werewolf is exposed and booted from the village.
2. There are just one villager and one wolf remaining.

Happy hunting!
