We're Back

It's probably no coincidence that September 14th was our last post. It was a big day for both of us-the BookGeek1 family welcomed our newest little BookGeekBaby.

That's right, we now have a little girl that we can raise with a healthy love of literature and libraries.

We are loving our Mom and Daughter matching panda socks.

My apologies as well. While my changes are not as dramatic or life altering as becoming a parent, I have had some changes as well. I am growing into a new position at work as a Continuing Education and General Consultant. That means my posts are going to shift to a broader library spectrum than just IT.
Plus I gotta spoil BookGeekBaby. It's my job as honorary aunt!

BookGeek1 has been a bad blogger

Many apologies for not posting much over the past few months. I always have the best of intentions (as well as a schedule of topics I want to share), but sometimes things happen and time gets away from us.

On that note, Mr. BookGeek1 and I are excited to announce a new addition will be joining us later this year!

Morning sickness can take down even the strongest of us!

That being said, I'll try to get back on track with routine posting. And I have so many things to share!!!

But....YAY BABY!

BookGeek2 learns about Yoopers!

Mr. GookGeek2 and I went on our annual adventure to the Upper Peninsula (U.P.) this year.  We found the scenery delightful and the locals (a.k.a Yoopers) were just awesome.

The Mr enjoys a Lake Superior sunset. It was awesome but not "superior" to a Kansas sunset. ;-)

BookGeek2 Takes on San Diego

Mr. BookGeek2 had a work conference in Sunny California, so I tagged along. We stayed in Little Italy and rented bicycles.

 We saw the Midway and Maritime museum, took the ferry to Coronado and caught a Padres game. And, on the way back after the game...we found the San Diego library!!!

Computers, Libraries and DC

I am lucky enough in my career to be able to go to library conferences to continue my education in libraries and technology.

This year, I attended the Computers in Libraries conference, held annually in Washington D.C.







Of course, I made time to see the sites.

But I also learned a lot. I learned about staff training, and making it a fun staple in my workplace. So that people seek out Continuing Education opportunities in fields of their interests that they can then incorporate into the library.

I learned about makerspaces with 3D Printers (Lulzbot Mini was a common favorite), lasercutters, sewing machines, and more.

I learned about the Internet of Things with Lee Rainie, from Pew Research Center.

I also learned about holding a hack-a-thon and engaging Millenials in the library.

It was a great trip. I learned so much. I'm now ready to try to digest it all and incorporate it into my work life.

Well our Wedding Day is officially behind us.

So what does a techie/book geek do to make her Bestie's day special?  Why, have a giant sleep over for her bachelor party, of course!

There was shopping for costumes as her wedding is on Halloween.

There was lots of food.
There were movies projected on the wall.
And, there was witch's brew punch.

Mr & Mrs BookGeek2 take on Wales!

In August, BookGeek2 and Mr. BookGeek2 adventured to Wales. I wanted to show Mr. BG2 my old campus at University of Wales Aberystwyth. So we returned after an 11 year hiatus.

We did see the sites in London.

and tried to find my old dorm....

alas, it was torn down.

But all was not lost. My friend Anna lives in Plymouth, so we traveled to see her, Mr. Anna, and her cute button.

And visited BookGeek1's plant, Steve, that she nurtured her year in Wales and left in Anna's great care. Steve has many children all over Plymouth and is living the pampered life of a house plant with a cat and a toddler as companions.

We are Jennifer & Maribeth and we are awesome!

We have been buddies since college when we moved in across the hall from each other at the same time.

Since then we have been through a lot together.

We've seen the world (with our other trusty Panda friend).....

Went to the same Graduate School to study different programs.

After that we ended up working together at the only two county library in the state of Kansas. The same library that oversaw both of our childhood libraries.

A short time later, Maribeth was off to work for a library system and Jennifer was left behind....

But wait!

In true stalker fashion (kidding, it just kind of happened this way), Jennifer wound up working for the public library in the very same town.

That's right! We were back together again! Which was a great thing because Maribeth really missed Jennifer.

Since then we have continued our adventures.

We've continued to work in the theatre together.

Today Jennifer has left that library and is on the way to yet another Kansas library, but we are hoping that this blog will help others while helping us continue our adventures together.
