DIY String Art: Space Edition

My teens totally love String Art, so giving them another option for creation to fit this summer's theme is ideal.

One Giant Alien

So I had the completely wacky idea that it would be super-fun to do an alien autopsy program this summer. While the program itself has yet to occur I have hopes that it will turn out to be hilariously gross. The alien, however, was a colossal pain to create, but I am quite pleased with how he turned out.

Record Art

Creating artwork from old records is a great way to re-purpose some cheap finds (or free ones). With only a few supplies needed, the versatility of this lends itself to stocking up for this one for the future.

And our space ones for the summer turned out amazing.

Planet Bowl

This is a good example of something that didn't quite turn out like I had hoped, but here it is in case it inspires someone else in some way. I wanted to create a kind of glowing planet bowl.

Geometric Paper Planets

One super, super simple craft we are digging this summer is our Geometric Paper Planets. The diversity of these combined with their low cost should make them ideal for many of our smaller libraries.

Roswell Inspired: Artwork

I have vague memories of the TV Show Roswell from back in the day. Remember this one

Stencil Roundup: Space

This summer I am all about stencils for my programs. The brilliant aspect is that their ability to be reused will make it super handy to utilize for programs for kids all the way through adults.

To try to be as helpful as possible here is a list of the space themed stencils that I am in love with. Links will take you to Plaid Online.

So grab your space gear and let's get going.
