SLP 2021: Prize Books

A question we see frequently is, where do you find your books that you give away each summer. And the answer is: many different places.

But to be more specific, let's go shopping.

Donations

We seem to frequently get practically new books that make their way to us. If they don't go into our collection, they go straight to our prize book stash.

ARCs

We also use advance reader copies that we get from the publishers after we preview them for our collection development purposes. If you receive these, it is very important to remember that you cannot add these to your collection and you cannot sell them in your book sale.

Cheap Store Finds

We always browse stores (Books-a-Million, Walmart, Target, Dollar Tree, Barnes & Noble, and so many others) for various cheap finds.

Book Depot

I love Book Depot! This is a great spot to find bargain books that are anywhere up to 90% off the MSRP. And their $1 sale is FABULOUS!

First Book

If you qualify this is a fantastic resource. That is IF YOU QUALIFY!

To qualify you must work at or represent on of the following:

  •  An emergency program supporting low-income families in response to COVID-19
  • Head Start
  • Title I or Title I eligible school
  • USDA Food and Nutrition Program
  • Federally Qualified Health Center
  • Title VII recipient
  • Military family support program
  • Library with an E-rate of 90
  • A program primarily serving children with disabilities
  • A program where at least 70% of children come from low-income families

The rules for this are tight, but it is because this entire program is designed to "raise the quality of education for all children by making sure they have access to the resources they need to be successful in school and in life."

After signing up you have access to low cost books and also free books from their book bank (you just have to pay S & H).

And that is my round-up of favorites for now. Go forth and find some forever books for your community!
